Your Partner for Refractometers
A gemological refractometer is an essential tool for gemologists, designed to measure the refractive index of various faceted gemstones, from those that are transparent to near opaque. Refractive Index (“RI”) is a fundamental property of materials that measures how light propagates through different media. Since the RI varies among different gemstones, this information is vital for accurate gemstone identification. Moreover, a gemological refractometer can also help determine whether a stone exhibits single or double refraction (i.e. isotropic or anisotropic).
All of our models have built-in 589nm filter to avoid the need for a monochromatic light source. Built-in LED version is also available to provide additional illumination, making the essential tool of gemstone identification more versatile than ever. There is also a polarizing filter that comes with the device installed at the eyepiece to better observe the phenomenon of birefringence.
The models can measure up to RI value of 1.81. All devices are shipped with contact fluid and a protective carrying case.
Discover the science behind light refraction and how it helps in distinguishing between various gems, ensuring you gain insights into both the beauty and authenticity of gemstones.
